Lamarcardinals.com: Let’s talk about defense. You’re a defensive specialist. What is it about defense that you enjoy? If you were taller, would you want to be a middle blocker or an outside hitter?

B.S.: I love playing defense. It’s great when someone goes up and takes a big hit and you take away their glory of getting a kill. It’s the best feeling in the world. If I was a little taller maybe I’d like to play outside hitter, but I love defense. It’s such a rush.

Lamarcardinals.com: What do you think you can do to take this team’s defense to another level?

B.S.: Hopefully I can inspire everyone to play their best defense. I try to go out there and get balls nobody else can get, so hopefully it will transition to a team thing.

Lamarcardinals.com: A couple of weeks ago you took a tough shot to the face and go a concussion when we were playing Texas State. Do you remember much about that incident?

B.S.: The last thing I remember before getting hit in the face was seeing their setter. I don’t remember the actual hit, but I do remember opening my eyes and seeing the look on Meagan’s (Adams) face. She had a look of horror on her face like I had just been shot.

Lamarcardinals.com: Have you ever had anything like that happen before?

B.S.: That was the first time I have ever been hit in the face in my volleyball career. Hopefully it’s the last. I think I’ll have quick hands next time.

Lamarcardinals.com: You have spent time as a reserve and as a starter this season. What have you seen from the team recently that accounts for our better play?

B.S.: Everybody’s attitude is better and we’re all fired up and ready to go. We all want to win and be conference champs again. Having a full team back on the floor after the injuries earlier in the season is important and we know we can play great volleyball.

Lamarcardinals.com: Obviously Beaumont is much different than your home town of Phoenix. Tell me what the biggest difference is for you.

B.S.: My days actually feel slower when I’m here. When I went home for the evacuation it was crazy. I was gone all the time and it was crazy all day. I come back here and I hang out in my dorm, go to practice, but it is just a lot different.

Lamarcardinals.com: What is your goal for the rest of the season?

B.S.: I just want to go out and play the best volleyball I can. I want to win and have fun?
