The Lamar University volleyball team takes to the road for a pair of matches against Southland Conference East Division rivals McNeese State and Stephen F. Austin this weekend.
The weekend gets under way on Friday evening when LU takes on the Cowgirls at 7 p.m. in Lake Charles, La. On Saturday Lamar will face SFA in Nacogdoches, Texas at 6 p.m.
The Lady Cardinals enter Friday's match with an 8-8 overall record and a 6-1 mark in SLC play after winning their last four matches. Lamar's four wins in that streak have come against UTSA, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana.
The Lady Cards are led by Genevieve Gladle who is averaging a team-high 2.40 kills and 3.09 digs per set. Shalayne Blythe is averaging 2.18 kills per set and Ashley Todd has paced the LU attack with 9.5 assists per set. Andrea Hamilton and Lauren Holdorff have been solid defensively this season, averaging 3.50 digs and 0.91 blocks per set respectively.
McNeese State enters Friday night's match with a season record of 6-12 and an SLC record of 3-4. They are led by Chanel Tyler's 3.06 kills per set while Alyson Jones has averaged 2.79 kills per set. The offense is set up by Sarah Cartie's 8.82 assists per set and the defense is led by Tyler who averages 3.42 digs per set.
Stephen F. Austin enters Saturday's match with a 16-4 overall record and a 7-1 mark in SLC play after defeating Sam Houston in four sets on Wednesday night. The Ladyjacks are led by Lauren Railey's 3.03 kills per set while Whitney Schott is averaging 10.27 assists per set. The SFA defense is led by Laurel Kuepker's 4.56 digs per set while Ashley Bailey is averaging 1.02 blocks per set.
After the weekend showdown with their SLC East counterparts the lady Cardinals will return to SLC West play next week as they travel to A&M Corpus Christi and UTSA on Friday and Saturday.
