Hamilton Named SLC Defensive Player of the Week
Oct. 27, 2008
BEAUMONT - After helping the Lamar University volleyball team to a pair of wins against McNeese State and Stephen F. Austin last week, libero Andrea Hamilton was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Hamilton, a senior from Austin, Texas, was the driving force for the Lady Cardinals defense in Saturday's win over Stephen F. Austin, picking up a match-high and personal season-best 28 digs for a 5.6 digs per-set average. In Friday's win at McNeese State she registered double-digit digs with 12 to lead Lamar. Hamilton ranks sixth in the SLC in digs this season with an average of 3.63 per set and is seventh in the league with 3.56 digs per set average in conference play. For her career she has collected 1,411 digs, which ranks fifth on Lamar's all time list. This is the second player of the week honor Hamilton has received in her career. She picked up the award last season after a strong opening weekend to SLC play. She is the second Lady Cardinals player to be recognized this season, as Lauren Holdorff was named offensive player of the week on October 13. Hamilton and the Lady Cardinals, who are 8-1 in SLC play and in a tie for first place in the West division, will be back in action on Friday night at 7:00 when they take on Texas A&M Corpus Christi in Corpus Christi, Texas.
