A closer look with Lamarcardinals.com
Lamarcardinals.com sat down with Adrianne Meengs to talk about her season. Take a look at what she had to say.
Lamarcardinals.com: After missing more than half of the season with mono, you're now back on the court. What has this season been like as you've been waiting to get back on the floor and what's it like getting back out there?
A.M.: It's been really tough. Dealing with having mono was something I couldn't see or feel, but it kept me from playing. It was tough because it wasn't like it was an injury and I had a boot on my foot or anything. Now that I'm back, it feels great to be able to practice and not just watch. I'm getting to play a little and I'm getting more and more comfortable with all the sets and I'm basically just knocking the rust off.
Lamarcardinals.com: When you got into a match for the first time this season against Nicholls State, you first two serves were aces. How was that for your first action of the year?
A.M.: I was a little nervous, but I have no idea how I got those two aces. I'm not really an ace kind of server; I just got lucky I guess. It took me a couple of points to get settled in and get my surroundings, but once we got on a run I was able to get into the game and not think about stuff.
Lamarcardinals.com: Being able to watch the team from the sidelines, you were able to see things from a different perspective than being on the floor. What do you think this team has the ability to accomplish?
A.M.: We're definitely more talented than last year. We've never been a defensive team, but we're better defensively than we were last year. We can accomplish as much as last year and more. I would really like to win the tournament this year and go on to the NCAA tournament. Winning conference was great, but let's win the tournament as well and go to the NCAA's.
Lamarcardinals.com: You are a really big Brett Favre fan. Are you still a Packers fan or are you Jets all the way.
A.M.: Go Jets! I've got to root against the Packers now. That's not how you treat a legend.
Lamarcardinals.com: Besides just being a talented player, what is it that made you an all conference caliber player?
A.M.: I just like winning. I enjoy trying to be the best at what I'm doing so I work hard to reach my goals.
Lamarcardinals.com: How much of an honor was it for you to be named the Southland Conference Setter of the Year last season?
A.M.: It meant a lot but I think of it as something that came along with us winning. Those awards are kind of for everybody. I wouldn't have gotten the award if we had bad passing all year. It's really neat and I'll look back and be proud of it, but it came as part of our championship.
Lamarcardinals.com: I hope you have the chance to win another championship this year. If you all win I'm sure even more accolades will be given to you and your teammates. Thanks for stopping by Ady.
