Molli Abel Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team

BEAUMONT - For the second time in her career, Lamar University middle blocker Molli Abel was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VI University Division second team, as announced by CoSIDA on Thursday.

Abel, a senior nursing major, has played in all 30 matches this season, starting 27 times. She has knocked down a team-high 327 kills (3.21 kills per game) and is the team leader in blocks with 102. With two matches left in the regular season, Abel is closing in on setting a new school record for hitting percentage, as she has posted a league-best .378 average in 846 attempts.

A native of Friendswood, Texas, Abel has knocked down a season-high 18 kills on two occasions, first against the University of New Orleans and again against Tennessee Chattanooga. Her highest hitting percentage of the season came against UC-Riverside, when she posted a .684 average, with 14 kills and one error in 19 attempts.

Abel was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VI University Division second team as a junior.

District VI is comprised of university's from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. The sports information directors from each university vote on the team.
