FRSICO – After joining the 1,000 career kill club earlier this season, Lamar senior outside hitter Sierra Whittaker became the Lady Cardinals’ first two-time All-Southland selection since 2008 as the league announced its annual awards on Wednesday.
Whittaker, a native of Houston, overcame an injury earlier in the season to lead the team in kills at 3.48 per set and take home All-Southland Second Team recognition. She was also a factor defensively, picking up .83 digs and .49 blocks per set.
Previously, Whittaker was named to the second team in 2011, and she completed her career with 1,124 career kills, which ranks 16th in school history.
Central Arkansas’ Marissa Collins, a four-time All-SLC honoree, was named the league’s Player and Setter of the Year after helping the Sugar Bears to a flawless 18-0 conference record. Northwestern State’s Keelie Arneson and Ashley Elrod won Libero of the Year and Freshman of the Year, respectively. Sara Pope of Oral Roberts was the Newcomer of the Year, and UCA’s David McFatrich was the Coach of the Year.
