Dec. 13, 2012

FRISCO, Texas - For the 17th time since the Lamar volleyball program re-joined the Southland Conference in 1998, a Lady Cardinal was honored with a spot on the conference's All-Academic Team as Megan Schwartz took home second team honors on Thursday.

Schwartz, who currently carries a 4.0 grade point average in social work, is in the middle of her third year on campus and just completed her second season playing for the Red and White. The Tomball native led the Lady Cards with 350 digs in 25 matches to go along with 27 service aces while playing primarily at the libero position. She is the first LU player to earn a spot on the Academic team since the 2010 season.

Schwartz was one of four players on either the first or second team with a 4.0 GPA. Jessica Hays of Central Arkansas was named the Student Athlete of the Year just weeks after earning Southland Tournament MVP.

Dating back to 1987, Lamar has now placed 59 athletes on an all-academic volleyball team.
