Holdorff, Meengs Named To Academic All-Southland Volleyball Team

FRISCO, Texas - Lamar seniors Lauren Holdorff and Adrianne Meengs were both named to the Capital One Bank/Academic All-Southland Conference Women's Volleyball Team as announced by the league office on Thursday.
Meengs was named to the first team with a 3.86 grade point average in business, while Holdorff earned second team plaudits with a 3.2 gpa in business. Both players, who competed with one another at Friendswood (Texas) High School, completed their four-year careers this season after helping Lamar to the 2007 Southland Conference regular-season title and the 2008 SLC Tournament Championship.
This marks the third-consecutive year and the sixth in the last seven that at least two Lady Cardinals have been voted onto the academic all-conference teams.
Meengs finished her career with 3,287 assists to rank fifth all-time at Lamar and 570 kills, which are the most by a setter in school history. She posted 8.8 assists per set and a .297 hitting pct. in 2009 as she recorded four triple-doubles in 2009 and nine in her career.
She was name to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District VI squad earlier this year. Meengs was also a first team academic all-SLC honoree as s sophomore in 2007 and is a three-time SLC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll member
Holdorff finished her career with 752 kills on .259 hitting with 2.18 kills per set. In 2009, she led Lamar with 2.76 kps. She had 279 career blocks and a 0.81 bps avg as she ranked third on the team with 60 this season.
Holdorff earned first team all-SLC honors as a junior and was an honorable mention choice as a senior.
Eight members of the 18 student-athletes among the two teams are returning All-Academic selections - Yelena Enwere of Northwestern State and Robyn Smith of Central Arkansas secured their third-consecutive all-academic nod, while Meengs, Chloe Smith of UCA, Laurel Kuepker of Stephen F. Austin, Anna Ferguson of Sam Houston State, Kendra Rowland of USTA and Christy Driscoll of UT Arlington each collected their second all-academic appearance.
Among the 18 players selected for academic recognition, Meengs and 11 others have GPAs of 3.5 or higher.
The All-Academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance administrators from each Southland Conference university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.
Included in Capital One Bank's support of the Southland Conference Academic Awards Program is the F.L. McDonald Postgraduate Scholarship, the All-Academic Teams, the Student-Athlete of the Year, the Scholar-Athlete award and the Commissioner's Honor Roll. |
