HOUSTON – Leigh Lattimore picked up where she left off two weeks ago, taking home an individual crown as the Lamar men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Justin F. Cooper Memorial Rice Invitational.
Lattimore, who was part of the winning duo at last month’s McNeese Relays, beat out Texas A&M’s Karis Jochen by seven seconds to finish the four-kilometer event in 14:30.
As a team, the Lady Cardinals came in third with 80 points. The Aggies won the event with 29, and Rice was second with 64.
The trio of Louise Webb, Kayla de Bondt and Rachel Robinson finished 19th, 20th and 21st, respectively, with times of 15:46, 15:51 and 15:52.
Claire Arnold rounded out the scoring for the women five seconds later, ending 23rd at 15:57.
Megan Flanagan finished 35th at 16:07, and Belinda Aguilar clocked in at 16:59 to finish 67th. Kaitlynn Warren was 70th at 17:05.
Matt Johnsen led the men with a seventh place finish, completing the six-kilometer course in 17:00, and Sam Stabler was just six seconds off his pace, coming in 10th.
Overall, the team finished tied for third 89 points, tying Stephen F. Austin.
Rice took home the event crown with 77, and Texas A&M was second with 87.
Ash Harrell ended 18th at 17:22, Ryan Creech was 25th at 17:31, and Sean Guiney rounded out the scoring at 17:42, placing 33rd.
Also competing were Matt Jackson (48th, 17:56), Michael Kershaw (49th, 17:56), Sean Chalmers (60th, 18:07) and Chris Jones (87th, 18:40).
Both teams will return to action at next month’s Notre Dame Invitational.
