HOUSTON - Lamar placed four runners among the Top 10 to win the Rice Invitational men's division while the Lady Cardinals posted a pair of Top 10 finishers to place third in the women's division Saturday morning on the Owls campus course.
Clerc Koenck and Amanda King posted Top 10 finishes to pace the Lady Cardinals. Koenck finished in seventh place, covering the 5,000-meter course in a time of 14:52. King placed eighth, one-hundredth of a second behind Koenck at 14:53. Rice's Marissa Daniels won the race in a time of 14:06.
Rene Graham placed 12th for the Lady Cardinals with a 15:02 clocking. Stacy Monteau was 28th in a time of 16:10, followed by newcomers Karesse Lethermon (29th, 16:13) and Mercy Bungei (17:15).
Rice won the women's division with 34 points, followed by SMU (43), Lamar (78), TAMU-Corpus Christi (78) and Stephen F. Austin.
Leading the way for the men were newcomers Sammy Kosgei and Frances Kasagule. Kosgei finished in second place, covering the 6,000-meter course in 17:15. Kasagule was third in a time of 17:20. Shadrack Songok of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with the race in a time of 17:11.
Also posting Top 10 finishes for the Cardinals were newcomer Frank Bwambale and senior Danny Shaw. Bwambale placed fifth with a 17:49 clocking while Shaw was sixth in a time of 18:03.
Also competing for Lamar was Ben McBride, who finished 17th in a time of 19:05, Aaron Brannen (21st, 19:17), Ewan Simpson (27th, 19:53) and Austin Turnbull (36th, 20:09).
Lamar scored 32 points to win the team scoring. TAMU-Corpus Christi was second with 44 points, followed by host Rice (53), Louisiana Tech (90) and Prairie View A&M (140).
