The Lamar University men's and women's cross country teams return to action Saturday morning, running at the Texas A&M Invitational on the Penberthy Intramural Fields.
The men's 8,000 meter race will get under way at 7:45 a.m. with the women's 5,000 meter race to follow at 8:30 a.m.
The fields for both the men and women will be full of regionally ranked teams, as the women's field will feature five teams ranked among the top eight of the South Central Region, and the men's field sporting four teams among the top 10 in the region.
The list of women's teams, with regional rankings includes Texas A&M (3), Lamar (5), Rice (6), Texas (7), TCU (8), Houston (12), UT-Pan American (13), and Sam Houston State (14).
Regionally ranked teams on the men's side include Lamar (3), Texas A&M (4), Sam Houston State (9), Texas-Arlington (10), and UT-Pan American (13).
Also competing in the meet are Monterrey Tech, Prairie View A&M, Texas A&M Commerce, and Texas A&M International.
"After taking a few weeks off after our first meet, we are really looking forward to going out and competing again," said cross country coach Sita Waru-Ewell. "Both teams have put in a lot of hard work over the last three weeks and hopefully it will show on Saturday with some great performances."
After the competition in College Station, the Cardinals will venture away from the state of Texas for their final two meets before the Southland Conference Championships, running at the Griak Invitational in Minnesota and the Pre-Nationals in Indiana. Lamar heads to Minneapolis, Minn. on Sept. 29 for the Griak, one of the nations top cross country competitions.
