Lamar Men's Cross Country Heads to Pre-Nationals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - With the 2007 cross country season nearing completion, the Lamar University men's team along with a pair of women's runners will head to the 2007 Pre-Nationals meet, hosted by Indiana State on Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at the Wabash Valley Sports Center.

The men's team, along with Renee Graham and Clerc Koenck from the women's team will face some of the top competition in the country. The men's competition features 26 of the top 30 teams in the country while the women's race boasts 23 of the top 30 teams in the country.

The men's team will run the 8k White Race, which will be the second of the men's races for the day, starting at 11:40 a.m. The race will feature 13 nationally-ranked squads, including No. 3 Colorado, No. 5 Stanford, No. 7 Notre Dame and No. 10 North Carolina State. Other teams in the race include Arizona State, Belmont, Cal Poly, Coastal Carolina, Cornell, Eastern Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, Florida, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana State, Kansas, Liberty, Marquette, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Montana, Oakland, Ohio U., Penn, Princeton, Providence, Southern Illinois, Southern Utah, Syracuse, UC-Santa Barbara, Utah State, UTEP, William & Mary, Western Kentucky, Washington State, Weber State, Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Yale.

Graham and Koenck will be running in the women's 6k open race, slated to begin at 2:10p.m. The race will include participants from Air Force, Iona, Loyola (MD) and Southern Utah, along with the remaining runners from the teams participating in the while and blue race who have more than seven participants competing.

The rest of the women's cross country team will head to Seguin, Texas for the Texas Lutheran Invitational, to be contested on the TLU campus. The women's 6,000 meter race will start at 9 a.m., with the men's 8,000-meter race starting at 9:45 a.m.



The Lamar women will face fellow Southland Conference members Texas State-San Marcos and UTSA at the meet.
