For the third time this season, a Lamar University women's cross country runner has earned the Southland Conference cross country athlete of the week, as Clerc Koenck was honored after her championship performance at the Pre-Nationals meet in Terre Haute, Ind.
Koenck picked up her first title of the season on Saturday, winning the women's open race. The senior and defending SLC champion and athlete of the year turned in a 20:56.6 performance over 6k, finishing six seconds ahead of the second place finisher from Iona.
This is the second cross country athlete of the week award Koenck has earned in her career. She earned the honor last season after leading LU to the team title at the NSU Invitational. Overall this is her fourth time to be named athlete of the week, as she picked up two awards during the 2007 track season.
Koenck and the rest of the Lamar men's and women's cross country teams will be in action again on October 27 at the SLC championships in Corpus Christi, Texas.
