PLANO - For the second time this season, Lamar women's cross country runner Jackie John won the Southland Conference `Female Athlete of the Week' award, announced Tuesday afternoon by league officials.
John, a native of Iowa, Louisiana, led the Lady Cardinals to a 6th-place team finish at last weekend's Cowboy Jamboree hosted by Oklahoma State. She finished 12th overall after racing through the 5,000-meter course in a time of 18:17. John was Lamar's top finisher for the third time in three races. She also helped the Lady Cards finish ahead of all other SLC schools competing in last Saturday's race.
A junior transfer from Texas A&M, John won her first SLC weekly award on Sept. 7 after winning the season-opening Lamar/McNeese State Dual Meet. John covered the two-mile course in a time of 11:14, while leading LU to the team victory.
She and the rest of the Lady Cardinal harriers return to action on Monday, Oct. 18 with the Lamar Invitational at Idylwild Golf Club in Pinewood.
