BEAUMONT - Lamar head track and field coach Trey Clark inked his first recruit of the early signing period on Wednesday, as distance runner Renee Graham signed a national letter of intent to begin competing for the Lady Cardinals in the spring of 2005.

A native of Hawera, New Zealand, Graham will be the fourth member of the Lamar track team to hail from the South Pacific nation. Assistant coach Sita Waru, also a native of New Zealand, continues to reap benefits from a well-established Kiwi connection.

"We're very excited to have someone of Renee's caliber joining our program," Clark said of his new signee. "She will add quality depth to our (Southland) conference championship cross country team."

Graham attended Sacred Heart Secondary School and placed first in the 2001 New Zealand Secondary Schools Road Race. She also secured second-place in the New Zealand Secondary School Championships with a 3,000-meter time of 10:29. Graham was also a member of the New Zealand Road Championship team.

"I definitely feel Renee is the first step towards winning another (SLC) championship," Clark added.
