The Lamar University Spirit Team is an elite Division I dance team, Co-ed Cheer Squad, and Big Red Mascot. The number of members vary each year depending on the ability level of the pool of candidates. The team performs at all home men's and women's basketball games and football games, as well as at various community events. Members also participate in events such as dance conventions, clinics, and workshops, a Spring Cabaret Show, cheer/mascot camps, and a cheer/dance team "Boot Camp." Members must be full-time students and have a minimum 2.5 grade point average. Incoming freshmen, as well as students currently enrolled at Lamar, are eligible to audition. Audition dates are listed below. Please download the Spirit Team Packet and fill it out completely. Members attend camp every August, where the Lamar team has consistently won high awards. Some scholarships are available.

MISSION STATEMENT
The Lamar University Spirit Team is committed to providing team members with the opportunity to develop creativity, personal growth, school spirit and appreciation for the arts through entertainment. Through performances, appearances and volunteer activities, the Spirit Team serves as Lamar's Ambassadors.

OUR COMMITMENT
The Lamar University Spirit Team was developed by Dr. Barry Johnson and Brenda Griner. Our goals and commitments include providing comprehensive and individual instruction to all our members. In addition, we try to develop fine role models and strive to empower and build self confidence and self-esteem.

DIVERSITY
Members on our team come from a diverse background. Some members have been trained extensively in dance, some have participated on competitive cheerleading squads, and other members come from elite pom squads or kick lines. Incoming member are from our region, around the state and out of state. This diversity is what makes our team outstanding as they draw from each others strengths and experiences to succeed.
